Hi all,
Wondering if there a script I can add that will see my files when clicked open up a new tab as opposed to opening on the same tab? Most folks simply close out tabs if they are occupied with an image etc, and then realize they should have 'returned' to their browser. I do it all the time.
I've just started an imaging intensive network for those who love AI Assisted Art and media in all forms. People are often looking at images so I'd prefer they open up in a blank tab.
Cheers if anyone can help with that.
Mark.
Wanna convert all of your outbound links into referral links like Product Hunt or Land Surveyors United Community? Here is how to do just this.
To implement a referral link with a "?ref=yourcommunityname" parameter to all outbound links on your website using jQuery, you can follow these steps:
Here is the code you need to modify for your own domain - be sure to change the yourcommunityname to your own domain. Simply copy and paste it into your Custom Code bottom section:
<script>
x$(document).ready(function() {
x$('a[href^="http"]').not('[href*="' + window.location.hostname + '"]').each(function() {
var href = x$(this).attr('href');
x$(this).attr('href', href + (href.includes('?') ? '&' : '?') + 'ref=yourcommunityname');
});
});
</script>
That's it!
Benefits of implementing referral links to outbound links:
Tracking referrals: By adding a referral parameter to outbound links, you can track the traffic and conversions that originate from your website. This can help you analyze the effectiveness of your referral program and measure the impact of your outbound links.
Rewards and incentives: Referral programs often include rewards or incentives for users who refer others. By implementing referral links, you can incentivize your users to share your content or refer others to your website, potentially increasing engagement and driving more traffic.
Partnership opportunities: Referral links can also be used to establish partnerships or affiliate relationships. By tracking referrals through specific links, you can collaborate with other websites or businesses, offering mutual benefits and potentially generating revenue through referral commissions.
I want some code to help me move the author's about me box from underneath the article or blog to their profile, sort of like a twitter bio box on the profile.
I mean they could use a bio like box on the profile/about section or just fill it out in their profile I suppose. But I wanted to know if it was possible and if possible if you could put it in the head section where the cover is and profile share these buttons?
Yes, I am still making themes!
Have you thought about the AI possibilities for your community?
Are you actively building tools to make your members' lives easier?
If not, you should be.
If you can't or do not know how, you should ask me to do it for you.
Either way, your members are already either adapting or are frustrated trying to learn. For example, here is a post I recently made on Linkedin for my land surveyor community. And here is a group I made to collect and beta test AI tools built specifically for members of my community, who I love and want to see succeed.
I'm like you. As a fellow Ning Community creator, I understand the importance of curating tools and resources that can help make our lives easier. The work of a community creator is both an art and a science. The science part is carefully becoming more and more in tune with what your members want and need. The delivery is science as well, best wrapped in art, in my opinion. With the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) and its increasing presence in our daily lives, it's important to adapt to these changes and explore the benefits that AI tools can offer.
I recently created a tool called PromptZILLA! which can teach you all about prompts. Prompts are to AI like searches are to google. The main difference is AI will give you something you are looking for, if you did not carefully craft your prompt. You have to know how to ask the robots, if you want anything meaningful in return. To my knowledge, the best way to outsmart the robots is to just call GodPromptZILLA! and let him do the heavy lifting.
Here are a few AI tools that I recommend trying out to enhance your Ning Community:
Chatbots
Chatbots are computer programs designed to simulate conversation with human users. They can be used to answer common questions, provide assistance, and even automate certain tasks. By implementing a chatbot in your Ning Community, you can offer 24/7 support to your members and save time and resources that would otherwise be spent on customer service.
Member Map Making Tools - my previous posts on the subject, now only somewhat apply..
If you read the posts above, those methods become much easier with AI. Personally, the pleasure and pain involved with building and maintaining a useful member map has been the most time intensive part of being a community creator. But it is worth it. It is so worth it that I built this tool specifically for you to use to build your own member map. Im not sure how well this embed will work here but i made the code available for you on codepen if, you would like to test it inside your community. Just set up an unlinked page inside your community and embed the code for your own use...if you like.
Here is what the Batch Geolocator looks like..
Sentiment analysis Tool
Sentiment analysis is the process of using natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning to analyze and interpret the emotions behind text-based content. By utilizing sentiment analysis tools in your Ning Community, you can gain insights into the emotions and opinions of your members, which can help you make data-driven decisions and improve the overall user experience.
Content curation
Content curation tools use AI algorithms to find, analyze, and organize relevant content from across the web. By utilizing content curation tools in your Ning Community, you can easily find and share high-quality content with your members, which can help build engagement and loyalty.
Personalization
Personalization tools use AI to deliver personalized experiences to each user based on their behavior and preferences. By implementing personalization in your Ning Community, you can offer customized content, recommendations, and experiences to your members, which can increase engagement and satisfaction.
Predictive analytics
Predictive analytics tools use AI to analyze data and make predictions about future behavior or outcomes. By utilizing predictive analytics in your Ning Community, you can gain insights into your members' behavior and preferences, which can help you make data-driven decisions and improve the overall user experience.
Adapting to AI can seem daunting, but it doesn't have to be. By exploring these tools and experimenting with their implementation in your Ning Community, you can enhance the user experience, improve engagement, and save time and resources.
Want some custom made widgets for your community? Send me a note here and let's make it happen.
Is there a simple way to achieve this? Thanks.
I've been cleaning my Ning Network up for our 16th Birthday celebration as a community and I came across a great trick for moving your primary navigation up into the account bar.
Simply add the following to your custom code bottom section near the top of other codes..
<script>
// movenav to before ningbar
x$(document).ready(function() {
x$('nav.header-nav.navbar').insertAfter('div.dashboardBarWrap');
});
</script>
I am searching today for a way to make this script load faster so there isn't a 1 second lag but there you have it. Perhaps Bizz will know a way..
Let me know if you have any questions or need help with your ning community.
I see Rosa has added something about this using a little css to hide them so thought I would come up with another version so you can have them hidden by default but enable them quickly if you need to. I have added another option into the Ning bar, as only admins see these anyway, so by clicking the button it will show the grey edit buttons on the page and by clicking again it will hide them, Note I have done it so that the button in the Ning bar will only show up if there are any edit buttons on the page else it will not be there.
Not sure why Ning did not add an option of a tick box or something for us to decide if we wanted them or not to show but I know they did have a lot of requests for editing on the page like there was in Ning 2.0 but the option would have been nice to be added.
Here are two demo images
So here is the code to use, just go to your Social Site Builder > Custom Code and add it in the END OF PAGE section.
<script>
x$(document).ready(function(){
x$('.editEs23Button').remove();
x$('.jsEditButton').closest('body').addClass("hasEditButtons");
x$('<a class="dashboardBar-icon edits-buttons" href="#/" title="Show Edit Buttons"><svg xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" width="22" height="22" viewBox="0 0 22 22"><path transform="translate(-21 -300)" d="M35.55 312.25l-2.3 2.3 4.07 4.06 2.29-2.3zm-4.8-4.8l-4.07-4.06-2.29 2.3 4.06 4.06zM32 306.2l4.7-4.69a.89.89 0 0 1 1.24 0l3.55 3.54c.35.35.35.91 0 1.26l-4.7 4.69 4.7 4.7c.35.34.35.9 0 1.24l-3.55 3.55a.89.89 0 0 1-1.25 0l-4.69-4.7-4.7 4.7a.89.89 0 0 1-.62.26h-3.54a.89.89 0 0 1-.89-.89v-3.54c0-.24.1-.46.26-.63l4.7-4.69-4.7-4.7a.89.89 0 0 1 0-1.25l3.55-3.54a.89.89 0 0 1 1.25 0zm4.13-1.63l2.3 2.3 1.18-1.19-2.3-2.3zm-1.25 1.26l-10.86 10.85v2.3h2.3l10.85-10.86z"></path></svg><span class="dashboardBar_title">Page Edit Buttons</span></a>').insertAfter('.dashboardBar-innerIcons a:last').hide();
x$('.edits-buttons .dashboardBar_title').css('margin-left','5px');
x$('.edits-buttons').hide();
x$('body.hasEditButtons .edits-buttons').show();
x$('.jsEditButton').hide();
x$('.edits-buttons').click(function(){
x$(this).toggleClass("dashbuttonActive");
x$('.jsEditButton').toggleClass("active");
x$('.jsEditButton').hide();
x$('.jsEditButton.active').show();
});});
</script>
A while back I believe Bizz helped me out with some custom CSS code.
Here it is:
/*Fixes Groups size and fonts*/
.groupHub-group.matrix-itemFluid {max-width: 150px;}
.section-member-groups .groupHub-groupTitle > span {font-size:14px;}
.section-member-groups .groupHub-groupInfo > a{font-size:10px;}
.section-member-groups .groupHub-groupInfo{min-height: 2em;line-height: 2em;}
.section-member-groups .groupHub-groupTitleContainer {height: auto;min-height: 2em;}
.groupHub .matrix-media-1-1{background-size: contain;background-position: center top;}
.groupHub-group.matrix-itemFluid {max-width: 150px;}
.section-member-groups .groupHub-groupTitle > span {font-size:14px;}
.section-member-groups .groupHub-groupInfo > a{font-size:10px;}
.section-member-groups .groupHub-groupInfo{min-height: 2em;line-height: 2em;}
.section-member-groups .groupHub-groupTitleContainer {height: auto;min-height: 2em;}
.groupHub .matrix-media-1-1{background-size: contain;background-position: center top;}
.groupHub a.matrix-media-1-1{ background-color:transparent!important; box-shadow:none }
.groupHub-groupTitle { background-color:transparent }
.groupHub-groupInfo{ text-align:center }
.groupHub-groupTitle > span { color: inherit; }
.groupHub .matrix-media-1-1 {padding-bottom: 135%; box-shadow:none }
/** GROUPS LIST ON HOME PAGE CUSTOM LIST **/
.groupList ul {
list-style-type: none!important;
padding-left:0px;
}
Something has changed (in Ning, CSS, Windows?) and now the title block, which is supposed to be transparent, is now a grey box, and it woud be nice if the posistion of the text in the text box was below the picture (if that's even possible).
Any help will be appreciated.
Don't know if anyone has noticed that your categories you may have added are now compiled into one Link in your nav called Albums. Nice of Ning to tell use they did this and really don't know why they did it !?
So what happens is now all your categories are now gone into this one link which is going to be confusing for your members when they add photos as the categories box to choose from is still called categories and not albums. I have added two tips to help you with this below.
When you now click the Albums link it now loads a new page similar to your photos list page listing all the categories. So now than rather just clicking on one of the categories in the nav bar you now have to click the Albums link to get to the categories which has to now load the new page for them, then to choose a new category you have to click the Albums link again or back in your browser to load the page again to select a new one.
Ning why have you done this as it was much simpler to choose a catagory from the nav bar with out have to load a new page everytime you want to choose a category. Seems a lot of extra clicks and loading of pages for no reason.
HERE ARE TWO TIPS TO HELP WITH THE CHANGE OF THE CATEGORIES NAME
1. First one is if you want to change the wording of the Albums link back to categories so not to confuse your members.
Go to your Social Site Manage and select the language editor in the menu, then click edit next to the language you are using and in the search box type in All Albums and click search. When it comes up you can change the wording in the right hand box to what you want so add Categories then go to the bottom of the page and click save. This will now have changes the All Albums to Categories. Don't worry you can always go back and change it if you want by following the same procedure as above.
2. If you want to KEEP the All Albums link as it is you can add this code into your Social Site Manager > Custom Code > End Of Page section to alter the wording of the Categories select box title to "Add To Album" ( Note you can change that text for what ever you want ) So now your members will not be confused with the Albums and categories as they are the same thing.
Here is an example of the change
<script>
x$(document).ready(function(){
x$('.photoEditPage-entry .entryEditPage-categoryContainer > label').text("Add to Album");
});
</script>
Didn't like the new layout for the photo Albums so thought would put them in a windows folder style.
You can see it live here: https://jr-images.ning.com/photos/list/categoriesAsAlbums
I'm looking for an ad rotator that changes the banner for each page view. I think I've seen one here but can't locate it.
Your help is appreciated!
Thanks,
Steve
I never realized that there was actually a Ning for Dummies book. It is quite dated but interesting none the less..
Not much going on around here but there are still a LOT of Ning Creators who need help with little things to improve their communities..
Here is a collection of over 250+ Ning tips and Tricks...
Let me know if you find it useful..or if you need help.
Another great tip - many of you may know about minnit.chat which is a newer, cleaner version of a text group chat for all for websites. Unlike chatango which you may see the XXX versions of people's parts (which is not nice for chat, and iflychat as well) well they have a free and paid version and also, will allow you to put the coding on a chat page or float in the bottom right, and support single sign on if you have the paid plan, as well as some other features. https://www.minnit.chat I recommend this chat to use as a third party chat app and works better than the ning chat.
I use onesignal on my buddypress and was curious to see if it would work with ning, due to how ning doesn't have the api to work right like buddypress console plugins and so on and i think that is a direction ning should go in.
However, I went over to one signal to look and you can do it this way.
1. Go to onesignal.com and make an account.
2. Go to apps.onsignal.com and name your app, for instance i used P ning you want to click on the web version of the app. You can upload the file of the site to your file manager in your admin, you will need to add some code also to the custom code section.
3. You'll name it and click next and see the dashboard, traffic of your pushes being sent or used.
4. Look for this menu up top: You want to click the little message box.
5. Then you want to click on IN app.
6. Once on the in app page click the settings:
7. Click on settings. You'll see a list, you want to click on web push all browsers.
8. Click on Typical Website. Then fill in the below area:
9. Then click on add prompt, you want to choose push slide prompt.
10. You will see something about optional advanced settings. Ignore this part.
11. Click Save. You will see the next screen which has your code. Copy and paste it into your browser.
After doing that on ning, save it, close the window and reload your browser or even restart. Or it will appear to not have worked. Go back in your ning site.
12. Go back to the last step. Click Go to website through the onesignal.com console. Your notifs should now be sending. You'll get a notif it will say something like this with your logo:
Click yes. You will now get notifs when there is new activity! Works on free sites as well as paid domain ones.
<img src="ADD PHOTO URL" title=" ADD ICON NAME"onclick="window.open('ADD URL LINK','MyWindow','width=800,height=500,toolbar=no,menubar=no,location=no,status=no,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,left=0,top=0');return false;" style="width:35px; cursor: pointer;"/>

<img src="ADD PHOTO URL" title=" ADD ICON NAME"onclick="window.open('ADD URL LINK','MyWindow','width=800,height=500,toolbar=no,menubar=no,location=no,status=no,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,left=0,top=0');return false;" style="width:35px; cursor: pointer;"/>
<img src="ADD PHOTO URL" title=" ADD ICON NAME "onclick="window.open(ADD URL LINK'','MyWindow','width=800,height=500,toolbar=no,menubar=no,location=no,status=no,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,left=0,top=0');return false;" style="width:35px; cursor: pointer;"/>
<img src=" ADD PHOTO URL" title="ADD ICON NAME "onclick="window.open('ADD URL LINK','MyWindow','width=800,height=500,toolbar=no,menubar=no,location=no,status=no,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,left=0,top=0');return false;" style="width:35px; cursor: pointer;"/>
ADD THESE CODES HERE IN ALL BOXES
NOW ADD THESE CSS IN YOUR CSS THEME DESIGN STUDIO
.belowHeaderAdHtml{ margin:0px }
NOW GO TO YOUR CUSTOM CODE PART - ADD INTO END OF PAGE CODE
<script>
x$(document).ready(function(){
x$('.belowHeaderAdHtml').insertBefore('.ningbar-userLinks');
});
</script>
